Tumblr is where memes are made, where cats and animated GIFs rule supreme. It's also where all the cool Internet kids hang out these days, so naturally the White House had to get in on the Tumbling action.

Tumblr is where memes are made, where cats and animated GIFs rule supreme. It's also where all the cool Internet kids hang out these days, so naturally the White House had to get in on the Tumbling action.

On Friday, the White House made its first post to its official Tumblr, where the Obama administration will post notes on policy decisions, give a peek at behind-the-scenes governmental action, publish quotes from President Obama himself, and of course, post animated GIFs and photos of Bo, the First Family's pet dog.

In addition, you can submit questions and comments to the White House via Tumblr in the hopes that they answer you or publish your story.

Social media is nothing new to the Obama administration; the President used social media heavily in his 2008 and 2012 campaigns, and continues to use it to communicate policy decisions and to rally supporters. Joining Tumblr seems to be a natural extention to this, but I can't help but wonder, what took so long?

You can follow along at whitehouse.tumblr.com. And while you're at it, why not follow TechHive on Tumblr, too?
