It may be a sleepy Memorial Day weekend in the States, but it's also the iPad's international launch weekend, and Apple is celebrating. Less than a month after the company hit the coveted one-million mark in iPad sales, Apple announced that it had sold its two millionth iPad.

This comes less than sixty days after the iPad's April 3 U.S. launch date. Now with the international release, "customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do," CEO Steve Jobs said in a company press release. Jobs's statement also included an acknowledgement of the device's recent availability issues, saying "we appreciate [customer] patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone."

In addition to these new sales numbers, Apple announced that more than 5,000 native iPad apps are now available on the App Store, pushing the overall app total to over 200,000.

As usual, Apple hasn't broken down which models are accounting as part of its two million sold, nor what countries they've been sold in, though Jobs might let some of those figures slip when he speaks next month at Apple's developer conference.
