Apple's offering detailed information on its support website for those who are confused about what display settings they should be using for the MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

The support page describes the difference between scaled resolutions and the Retina setting on the new laptop. It also offers advice for Mac users experiencing "visual issues" with applications.

The FAQ admits that "Some applications work best using the Low Resolution mode. Other applications will only run in Low Resolution mode."

Apple recommends the 1,440 x 900 resolution for 3D games, suggesting that users can "experiment with additional resolution settings from there".

Apple suggests that users should hold down the Option key when clicking the Scaled button to het more resolution choices when using an external display.

Users of Windows 7 in Boot Camp are advised to download and install Windows Support Software.

The FAO also lists the applications that can take advantage of the Retina display.
