Amazon smartphone hits testing

The Kindle maker is collaborating with Asian component suppliers to test a smartphone, according to the Wall Street Journal. People familiar with the situation said Amazon is looking to broaden its mobile offering by launching the device.
Mass production of the smartphone with no name could begin late this year or early in 2013. News of the Amazon smartphone surfaced last week with the suggestion it would rival the Apple iPhone.
Little is known about the handset but it will supposedly feature a screen size of between 4in and 5in.
It is likely that a smartphone from Amazon would run on Google's Android operating system. The firm would ride the success of its Kindle eReader and Kindle Fire tablet.
Amazon hasn't launched a tablet in the UK but we've heard from Dixons that the Kindle Fire will be released here, possibly this autumn. There's also plenty of speculation and rumour surrounding the Kindle Fire 2.
