Scott Forstall, Apple's Senior Vice President of iPhone software, has joined Twitter, which has been hopping with tweets this week surrounding the iPhone 4's technical problems.

The account, which features Twitter's Verified mark to assure its legitimacy, doesn't include any actual tweets yet, but Forstall had gained more than 20,000 followers as of 11 AM EST. So far, Forstall himself is following just one person: Comedian Conan O'Brien.

Forstall's arrival on Twitter has the masses wondering what Apple and the executive are up to on the social networking site and whether Forstall might use it to dive into the public discussion over iPhone 4

One Twitter user and Apple customer addressed Forstall with: "Love the iOS4. Can we add a custom homescreen (widgets, not apps) and a better notification system?" and one minute later with "oh and talk to the engineers about that damn antenna will you? ruining a good phone. :( and Apple's image."

Forstall joined Apple in 1997, is one of the original Mac OS X architects and reports directly to CEO Steve Jobs. Forstall was recently seen in action at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, where he discussed iOS 4 among other things

Apple has had little official presence on Twitter, though phony versions of Steve Jobs (here and here) have had plenty to say, including about the iPhone 4 antenna issues (wrote ceoSteveJobs: "Welcome @Forstall. After all, it just feels right to hold Twitter in your hands.")

The real Steve Jobs has been more partial to email of late to share his thoughts on everything from Adobe Flash to iPhone tethering

For Apple historians, old Steve Jobs partner Steve Wozniak has a verified Twitter account, though hasn't posted in months.
