Unreal Engine 3 already up and running on iPhone 3GS and 3rd Generation iPod Touch.

The same Unreal Engine 3 that powers Gears of War 2 his in the process of being ported to the iPhone and iPod Touch, and early iterations of the code are already up and running. In a demonstration given to Anandtech's Anand Lal Shimpi, Epic's Mark Rein showed a modified version of Unreal Tournament on the device, stating that the studio is already experimenting with control schemes as well as the graphics technology.

Unreal Engine 3 requires OpenGL ES 2.0, so the code will not work on older iPhones and iPod Touch devices. Rein told Anandtech that Epic was looking to make the code available to licensees at some point in the future, but that this isn't an indication that Epic itself will be entering the iPhone game market themselves.
