An undetermined number of users of Microsoft's Xbox Live gaming service are having difficulties accessing the online gaming service, and the company said on Friday that it is working to resolve the issue.

According to the Xbox Live status page, users may have difficulties signing on to Xbox Live from the Xbox gaming console and from the Xbox website.

"We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience," Microsoft said on the status page.

Microsoft first posted a message on Twitter at 11:20 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time informing users about the service problems . At around 12:45 p.m., Microsoft posted another message on Twitter asking users to "hang in there" and that the company was investigating the issue.

Users may also have difficulties accessing Zune.net, from where users can buy music and movies for smartphones, PCs and tablets, according to the Xbox status update page.

Microsoft didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
