The Hong Kong Polytechnic University will implement OpenText Enterprise Content Management system, said OpenText Monday.

From information capture, to classification, management, storage, distribution, archiving, and disposition, OpenText ECM manages the flow of information across the organization, according to Nasdaq-listed OpenText in a statement. The system also allows access from multiple environments--Web, desktop, mobile, within business processes and applications, while enabling document access control and maintaining an audit trail, the vendor added.

With more than 30,000 students, and nearly 3,500 teaching and non-teaching staffers, the PolyUoffers more than 230 programs on campus.

According to Gerrit W Bahlman, the university's director of Information, while the number of students, employees and courses are increasing at PolyU, the data generated and used as a result is also growing quickly.

"To better manage and leverage those data, PolyU's individual units implemented independent and isolated tools," he said. "But these disparate document management systems become harder to manager as the university is increasingly reliant on them."

"There was a need to aggregate the islands of information that could not be shared or used," said Gerrit W Bahlman, Director of Information Technology at PolyU. "We hope the OpenText implementation will help reduce IT support time and costs while improving collaboration between teaching and administrative staff and their pursuit of best practice sharing."
