Shazam for iPhone and Android now lets you listen to music you have found within the music discovery app through Spotify.

Spotify and Shazam have announced a tie-up that will let users of the Shazam app immediately listen to full tracks through Spotify's popular music-streaming service on both the iPhone and Android handsets.

The Play in Spotify feature aims to offer a seamless experience where you can discover a track through one of Shazam's apps and instantly hear it through Spotify. Shazam claims to have a database of 10 million tracks in its music identification and recommendation service, whereas Spotify says it has a similar number of tracks in its catalogue.

If you have the Shazam Encore or Shazam Red app, both of which cost £3.49 on the iPhone, you can use the new feature from today. Users of the free Shazam app will be able to access the Play in Spotify function later in Q1, the two companies said.

You will also need to have the Spotify app installed on your device as well. The app is free but requires a £10 monthly subscription.

"Shazam is a very innovative company in the mobile space, having achieved a massive following around the world and we're excited about the potential of this partnership for new music discovery through Spotify," says Daniel Ek, CEO, Spotify.

"Now if you hear a great new track you can identify it, listen to it instantly in its entirety and easily add it to your music collection. That's pretty powerful stuff," Ek continued.
