New iPad 5 renderings have been created based on the leaked back plate that emerged last week, showing what Apple's next iPad could look like in comparison to the iPad 4 and iPad mini.

The new images come from CiccareseDesign, who was commissioned by MacRumors to create the renderings to give Apple fans an idea of what the fifth-generation full-size iPad will look like.

MacRumors is convinced that the alleged iPad 5 back plate that was leaked from China at the end of January is real, indicating that the new iPad will take on the design of the iPad mini in larger form.

The photographs of the iPad 5 back plate also showed an iPad mini back plate for size comparison purposes, allowing CiccareseDesign to create mockups based on the measurements of the leaked parts. "We believe the relative sizes shown in the following images offer an accurate video of how the upcoming iPad 5 will compare in size," writes MacRumors.

MacRumors expects that the iPad 5 will be notably smaller than the current iPad, with thinner side bezels and slightly smaller top and bottom bezels. Overall, it's thought that the iPad 5 will be 4mm shorter and 17mm narrower than its predecessor.

It's also believed that the iPad 5 will be 2mm thinner than the iPad 4, which would bring the tablet's thickness closer to that of the iPad mini.

The iPad 5 is expected to arrive in October, with reports suggesting that Retina display iPad mini 2 will also be unveiled at this time. Previously, speculation pointed to a March launch for the iPad 5, but the launch of the 128GB iPad on 5 February indicates that we'll have longer than a month to wait for a redesigned update.
