Virgin Media has announced a deal with Netflix which will see the streaming service available to TiVo customers.

The deal means that Netflix will arrive on a pay-TV service for the first time. The Netflix app will be rolled out to 1.7 million TiVo customers later this year, but a pilot will arrive for 40,000 this week.

Dana Strong, chief operating officer at Virgin Media, said: "We're delighted to be bringing yet another groundbreaking service onto TV screens in millions of Virgin Media homes. Netflix is a fabulous addition to Virgin Media TiVo, enabling our customers to enjoy even more of their favourite shows and movies simply and easily - all through their TV set-top box and at outstanding value."

Virgin is hoping to lure customers with exclusive and popular series including House of Cards, Hemlock Grove and Breaking Bad.

However, if you're sitting at home with a TiVo box don't get too excited because Virgin Media isn't offering the service for free. Netflix users can log-in with an existing account or customers can sign-up for £5.99 per month.

Those with access to the pilot will find the Netflix app in the Apps & Games section of the TiVo box. The firm said it complements it's existing range of on-demand content which exceeds 6,000 hours.

Virgin Media recently added BT Sport to its list of optional content. See also: BT Sport now available for Virgin Media customers.

Bill Holmes, global head of business development at Netflix, said: "The UK has given Netflix a fantastic welcome and we're excited to be partnering with Virgin Media to bring an amazing Netflix experience to Virgin Media customers."
