One of the pioneers of casual gaming is on the verge of being acquired by an unknown party, according to a report by TechCrunch.
They cite "multiple sources" who say that PopCap Games will go for more than $1 billion. Electronic Arts is reported to be among the interested parties, while Zynga has apparently pulled out due to the high cost involved.
Whoever ends up with the prize would get a developer that reportedly rakes in about $100 - $150 million per year, and boasts a portfolio that includes Bejeweled, Plants vs. Zombies and Peggle.
PopCap is also one of the few developers to truly master the divide between iOS and other platforms; titles like Peggle and Plants vs. Zombies have proven to be just as successful on the Xbox 360 as the PC. That would make it a huge acquisition for whoever mounts a successful bid.
Stayed tuned for additional info on what looks like an intriguing deal.
