Could Apple about to reveal a brand new Mac device - the Magic Trackpad?

Along with a fourth-generation iPhone, 4.0 iPhone Software Update and possible new versions of Apple's Safari web browser and Apple TV, Steve Jobs and co could be about to unveil a completely new Mac device.

Pictures of what's been dubbed the Magic Trackpad have appeared online hours before Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), during which Apple's CEO will make a keynote address. The Magic Trackpad could offer a way for users to enter data, browse websites and the like by using their fingers.

Tech site Engadget is one of several sites showing images of the device, which would likely connect wirelessly to any desktop and laptop Macs using Bluetooth. "New images received with a claim that the device supports handwriting recognition in addition to 'every feature you can find on a Magic Mouse (and possibly features of a MacBook Pro trackpad),'" notes Engadget in an update. "This, from a person who claims to be personally testing it. Something we hope to do for ourselves before the day is through."

In February this year, MacRumors and others reported Apple filed a trademark application covering the term 'Magic Trackpad' with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO).
